Special Counsel/Senior IP Lawyer

About the role

If you are a motivated, enthusiastic senior lawyer seeking an opportunity to provide a broad range of IP transactional services and grow a transactional IP practice, we would like to hear from you.

This role will see you providing services in the transactional IP area, your work will focus on advising on and drafting various types of agreements that deal with intellectual property rights, including trade marks, designs, patents, copyright and plant breeders rights.   

Our clients are involved in the creation and exploitation of valuable intellectual property rights and the services in the transactional IP area are of significant assistance to them as they look to commercialise their IP.

 

Key responsibilities of the role include: 

  • Drafting and advising on agreements related to the development and commercialisation of intellectual property including software development,licensing and assignment documentation
  • Providing timely and accurate advice to clients in relation to the protection and commercialisation of intellectual property rights
  • Providing advice on confidential information and draft confidentiality agreements particularly as they relate to the protection of intellectual property rights
  • Advising generally on intellectual property rights including the identification of risks and possible mitigation strategies

You will need to have a sound understanding of contract and licensing law and the application of these areas in the intellectual property field. Experience in copyright and trade practices law would also be desirable.

Initially, you will be the key service provider in the transactional IP area. In addition to servicing existing clients, you will be responsible for marketing and business development. It is the desire of the firm that the transactional IP area grow in the volume of work and team size over the next 2-3 years. It is envisaged that there will be the opportunity to supervise a small team of additional lawyers as the practice grows.

 

You will have 

  • A sound background and knowledge of the areas of law identified above
  • The ability to work in a collaborative environment with our IP litigators and the patent and trade marks attorneys of our associated patent and trade mark firm,
  • Skills in marketing and business development
  • Experience of leading a small team
  • The drive and tenacity to grow the transactional IP area of the firm
  • A desire to consistently learn and grow in the field
