On Wednesday 20 November, the POF Engineering team hosted its third end-of-year function for the Victorian branch of Materials Australia. The event was also a Combined Technical Societies function, with 18 participants attending from the following industrial groups:
- Materials Australia
- The Australian Corrosion Association Inc.
- Australian Ceramics Society
- Australian Foundry Institute of Victoria.
The evening included a keynote presentation by the President of the Australian Ceramic Society’s Victorian Branch, Richard Bowman. Richard is a ceramic engineer and Managing Director of Intertile Research Pty Ltd. (Slipbusters), a tiling and slip resistance consultancy firm.
Richard gave a fascinating talk on, ‘Ceramic tiles, human fallibility, unintended mishaps and paradigm paralysis.’ The presentation detailed a number of ceramic tile projects that Richard has personally been involved in, as well as information on what can go wrong, and how to rectify the situation.
The meeting was chaired by POF Senior Associate Edwin Patterson. The attendees enjoyed a lively and enjoyable networking session of drinks and canapés following the presentation.
