Dealing with the European Patent Office (EPO) – An Update and Insights

Please note that this event has already occurred. Go back to events to see upcoming events.
The European Patent Office (EPO) offers inventors a uniform application procedure which enables them to seek patent protection in up to 40 European countries. However, the way in which the EPO deals with some of the standard patent issues is quite dissimilar to most other jurisdictions.

Greg Bartlett, a Partner in our Adelaide office, has recently returned from a four day workshop on European patent law, which provided him with a number of updates and insights into the EPO.

At this seminar, Greg will summarise these updates, with a focus on the differing practices you are likely to encounter in your day-to-day patenting activities in Europe.

Some of the topics will include:

  • Avoiding excess claim fees
  • Opportunities to amend
  • The need for more detail in patent specifications
  • The EP problem/solution approach to obviousness
  • The essentiality (or not) of features in EP claims

The duration of the seminar will be approximately 1 hour.
