About Leon

Leon has extensive academic and industrial experience in pharmacology and synthetic organic chemistry. Leon completed his PhD at the University of Sydney where he worked on a new synthesis for (+)-himbacine, a tetracyclic alkaloid for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

He has since worked on anti-HIV and anti-cancer drugs, sugar-based polymer conjugates to study cancer signalling, ligands for Cu-64 PET tumour imaging, and fluorinated compounds and supercritical carbon dioxide processes for organic solar cells. Leon also taught pharmacology and organic chemistry at Charles Darwin University and the University of New Hampshire (USA), and spent many years as a copyeditor for the Australian Journal of Chemistry.

Leon’s outstanding academic record has seen him publish in numerous international peer-reviewed journals and receive many awards including an Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award in 2011 and an Excellence in Research Award in 2012, both from the University of New Hampshire.
