About Justin

Justin is a registered patent attorney who has over 30 years of experience in biotechnology, including over 15 years’ experience in securing and enforcing IP rights. He has over 15 years academic experience in general. Justin majored in biochemistry and organic chemistry. He holds a First Class Honours in Biochemistry and a PhD in Molecular Biology, both from the University of Adelaide.

Justin’s research career focussed on DNA and RNA binding proteins, and their role in cancer. Following his PhD, Justin held a position as a Visiting Fellow at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland and was also a Fricker Fellow with the Department of Medicine at the University of Adelaide and the Hanson Centre for Cancer Research.

Justin has extensive experience in securing and enforcing intellectual property (IP) in the field of biotechnology. He has dealt with a wide variety of technologies, and assisted clients in securing IP rights from their conception through to grant and enforcement. Justin also has experience in the commercialisation of technologies in the University sector. Justin provides pragmatic and commercially focused advice. His local clients include universities, research institutes, CRCs, SMEs and start-ups.

Justin has recently re-joined Phillips Ormonde Fitzpatrick (POF) after previously being with the firm for nearly 10 years. Before returning to POF, Justin ran a biotechnology boutique IP practice which has been amalgamated with POF’s practice upon him re-joining the firm, under Justin’s care.
