Protecting innovation requires both technical depth and an understanding of how IP supports long-term commercial outcomes.

Clients in this sector operate under intense public, regulatory and commercial scrutiny. Freedom to operate, collaboration with research partners and balancing disclosure with competitive advantage are recurring challenges. We take a practical, commercially focused approach – helping clients protect innovation in a way that supports collaboration, investment and deployment, while managing risk in a highly visible and regulated environment.

We work with organisations across the energy, resources and renewables sector – including mining and mineral processing companies, clean technology developers, research institutions and international energy businesses. Our clients range from established industry players to universities and research organisations developing the technologies that will enable future energy systems.

We are experienced across traditional resources as well as emerging and renewable technologies. We regularly advise on inventions and developments involving mineral processing, batteries and electrochemistry, photovoltaics, advanced materials and clean and sustainable technologies.

We also work closely with clients developing solutions to improve environmental performance – including technologies focused on the reduction of emissions, electrification of equipment, recycling and re-use of waste streams. We are also experienced with innovations designed to extract value from by-products such as mining tailings and end-of-life batteries.

Our energy, resources and renewables capability is supported by strong expertise in relevant technical areas. Our team members have backgrounds in chemistry, materials science, engineering and electrochemistry, and have worked as scientists within petrochemical companies. Several team members have also completed secondments with leading research organisations, including CSIRO, providing first-hand experience of innovation from inside large, research-driven environments.

This technical foundation allows us to engage directly with researchers and engineers, quickly understand complex processes, and create clear, robust IP protection.

Clean technology and sustainability

As we look to the future, we recognise that innovation must be directed toward solving some of the world’s major environmental challenges. The development of green technology, such as wind turbines and solar panels, is critical for addressing the challenges of global climate change, promoting sustainable economic growth and reducing dependency on sources of fossil fuel.

To address these challenges, the ingenuity and creativity of researchers, scientists, engineers and inventors must be properly harnessed and protected. Inventors should be proactive in securing their intellectual property rights and understanding the positive role IP plays in the technological advances in the industry.

Our highly qualified and experienced team assist in all aspects of IP protection, including patents, trademarks, commercialisation, licensing and designs.
