Patent and Trade Marks Attorney

Edwin is a chemical and materials engineer with a PhD in the aluminium production field. Edwin’s broad experience and expertise enables him to assist clients in a range of technologies from simple mechanical devices through to complex mining, metallurgical and chemical processes.

Edwin is the current team leader of POF’s engineering team, and his practice is focussed on advising, preparing, obtaining and enforcing patent rights for his clients in process technology, chemical engineering, materials science, metallurgy, metallic and mineral processing, nanotechnology and clean technology. His practice includes a broad range of leading local clients including SME’s, universities and Australian research organisations in those fields.  Edwin strives to provide best possible IP strategy and protection for his clients in what can be complex and cutting edge research and innovation in chemical and materials engineering technologies.

Edwin has been endorsed as a ‘Patent Star’ in the Managing IP – IP Stars for 2018 to 2021, and is included in IAM Patent 1000, 2021. Edwin’s excellent client work has been recognised through a number of awards including Most Client Focused IP Specialist and also Overall Best Professional in the 2018 Financial Review Client Choice Awards and winner of the 2016 Intellectual Property, Patents category (Australia) awarded by International Law Office Client Choice Awards. He was awarded the Institute Prize by the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia for excellence in academic achievement in his qualifying examinations in 2004.

Edwin is a member of POF’s management committee, chair of the patents practice committee, convener of the firm’s resources industry group and a member of Phillips Ormonde Fitzpatrick’s sustainability and clean technology team.
