Dr Edwin Patterson

Edwin has a passion for helping client protect new innovation and developments in Chemical Process Engineering Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, Metallic and Mineral Processing, Nanotechnology and Clean technology. He has developed a large local practice which includes a broad range of leading local clients including SME’s, universities and Australian research organisations in those fields.

Edwin strives to provide best possible IP strategy and protection for his clients in what can be complex and cutting edge research and innovation in chemical and materials engineering technologies. However, Edwin’s broad experience and expertise also enables him to assist clients in a range of technologies from simple mechanical devices through to complex mining, metallurgical and chemical processes.

Edwin’s PhD research was in aluminium production technology, and has been recognised in that field with two TMS awards, including the TMS light metals award.

In the IP Field, Edwin has been endorsed as a ‘Patent Star’ in the Managing IP – IP Stars for 2018 to 2025, and is included in IAM Patent 1000, 2021 to 2025. Edwin’s excellent client work has been recognised through a number of awards including Most Client Focused IP Specialist and also Overall Best Professional in the 2018 Financial Review Client Choice Awards and winner of the 2016 Intellectual Property, Patents category (Australia) awarded by International Law Office Client Choice Awards. He was awarded the Institute Prize by the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia for excellence in academic achievement in his qualifying examinations in 2004.
