About Scott

Scott is a registered patent attorney with over 18 years of experience dealing with intellectual property (IP) matters in life sciences. He is also the firm’s medical technology team leader and point of contact for AgTech and FoodTech related subject matter

Scott also has over ten years of academic and commercial research experience in the biotechnology sector. He majored in biochemistry and pharmacology in his undergraduate degree, and was subsequently involved in a range of research projects through his employment at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide. These projects, and his PhD studies, focussed on identifying genes associated with human disease, including cancer. This work led to 28 peer-reviewed publications in various scientific journals, including NatureNature Genetics and Lancet.

Scott also has extensive experience in the management of IP portfolios, having worked for an Australian biotechnology company for over four years. Prior to joining Phillips Ormonde Fitzpatrick, Scott spent over three years with another large patent attorney firm in Melbourne.

As a result of Scott’s academic, industrial and IP experience, he understands the importance of protecting and managing IP, having dealt with IP issues from a client’s perspective. His experience enables him to advise clients on all aspects of securing and enforcing IP rights. His local clients include universities, research institutes, CRCs, SMEs, and multinationals.
