Matthew is an experienced patent attorney specialising in the chemical sciences and related technology areas.

He works with Australian and international clients to protect their inventions across a diverse range of technologies, including industrial chemistry and processes, materials science, green technologies, polymers, coatings and composites, nanomaterials, electrochemical devices, catalysis, minerals processing, printing and additive manufacturing technologies, and oil and gas technologies.

Matthew’s practice includes drafting of patent specifications for Australian universities, research organisations, SMEs and corporates, prosecution of local and international patent applications, oppositions and other disputes, and advice on patentability, patent validity and freedom to operate.

Matthew brings to his practice more than a decade of industrial R&D experience at a multinational chemical company, where he was a named inventor on 12 patent families and commercialised a first-of-a-kind chemical process. He has also worked in-house as an IP Manager in a large Australian research organisation. His experience of developing, protecting and commercialising innovative technologies enables him to effectively engage with researchers and to provide pragmatic advice to clients on securing their intellectual property.
