IP Australia fees to change

19 January 2007

IP Australia has announced changes to a number of fees relating to patents, trade marks and designs to be effective from 1 March 2007.

Most of the changes are small increases that might be expected (others are unchanged and some fees have decreased).

Two fees will increase significantly.

  • The acceptance fee for patent specifications with more than 20 claims will increase from A$20 to A$100 per claim above 20. Strategies may be able to be adopted to reduce the number of claims.
  • The fee for extending the deadline during an Opposition is increasing from A$150 per month to A$500 per month. Forward planning and efficient management of matters should help reduce the need to filing these applications.
