The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has decided to release second level “.eu” domain names.
Currently there is no firm dates as to when the registration process is going to begin, although The European Registry of Inter Domain Names (EURid) with ICANN propose that in the 4th Quarter of 2005 the registration process will commence.
It is proposed that in this fourth quarter of 2005 a sunrise period will commence, where owners of European Trade Mark Registration(s) will be able to lodge applications for second-level domain name(s) identical to your registered Trade Mark(s) with EURid. The domain name applied for must correspond exactly to your Trade Mark and the application process is on a “first come first serve basis”. There are geographical requirements that also must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for second level “.eu” domain names.
If you are interested in lodging an application for your Trade Mark(s) as a “.eu” domain name please let us know by expressing your interest as soon as possible and we can keep you updated as to the requirements of the application as firm dates are released.
Please contact Scott Gardiner or Marnie Brown if you would like to lodge an application for a “.eu” domain name or if you would like further information.
