Terry Collins dies - Phillips Ormonde & Fitzpatrick

Vale Terry Collins

1 October 2008

Former Partner of Phillips Ormonde & Fitzpatrick, Terrence J Collins, died last night after a battle with cancer.

Terry joined the firm in 1957 after initial industrial experience. While working at the firm, he studied for and obtained a Diploma of Mechanical Engineering from Caufield Technical College.

He subsequently studied to become a patent attorney, achieving registration and becoming a Partner of the firm in 1966.

Terry was Chairman of the firm's Management Committee. He was also a President of the Institute of Patent Attorneys of Australia, a member of AIPPI, APAA, FICPI and the Institute of Engineers Australia.

Terry was a member of the Government appointed working party that undertook a review of the patent legislation that lead to the Patents Act 1990.

Terry retired as a Partner in 1998, but continued on as a Consultant until 2005, representing almost 50 years with the firm.

Partners and staff condolences are extended to Terry's family.
