Profile: Prior to joining the firm, David spent six years as a Corporate Patent Attorney for CSIRO and prior to that was with the Australian Patent Office for 16 years where he variously held patents examination, training supervisory, hearings officer and policy development positions.

David is a partner in the firm’s EPIT (Electronics, Physics and Information Technology) Group and is the chairman of the firm’s Patent Practice Committee. He has over 35 years experience in the intellectual property field and since joining the firm in 1993 has established a patents practice that mainly involves specification drafting, prosecution of applications, conducting oppositions and client advisory work including rendering opinions on patent infringement and patent validity.

He represents clients in the physics, electrical, electro-mechanical and mechanical engineering fields of technology and has dealt with inventions relating to plasma generation apparatus and plasma treatment systems, mass spectrometry, optical spectroscopy, chromatography apparatus, microwave heating and treatment devices, electro-acoustic transducers including electromagnetic and electrostatic loudspeakers, electrical circuits for various purposes, electrical switchgear, wastewater treatment, packaging and firearms.

David also has a significant involvement in the skills training (particularly that of patent specification drafting) of trainee patent attorneys, both in Australia and throughout South East Asia through his involvement in IPTA’s Academy of Education and FICPI’s Training and Education Commission.
